According to Kay Ferry , chairwoman of the Vail Chamber and Business Association , the sophomore season location at Slifer Square near the Covered Bridge proved to be less successful for village business owners.Concert goers tended to listen to the music then turn around and head back out of town instead of bringing life and business back into the village on an otherwise quiet weeknight , Ferry says. The initial season , she says , brought locals and guests alike out onto the streets as intended by the organizers , who modeled the Street Beat series after its summer equivalent , the Budweiser Hot Summer Nights Concert Series at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater Vilar Pavilion.Following a series of conversations with business owners and a review of other stage options , Folz says , the foundation has come to the conclusion that the Check Point Charlie location is the best option in view of the series' goal of bringing locals back to town and providing a unique experience for guests.Ceil says the majority of business owners and seven of the eight petitioners support the move back to Check Point Charlie. The series will start up Dec. 12 , 2001 , and run through March 13 , 2002.The weekly concerts , featuring a variety of music genres , will begin at 6 : 30 p.m..A series-long raffle for a themed grand prize has quickly become a winter-season tradition among Vail residents and visitors.
