Former Odessa television newscaster Kay Gaddy said she is "really looking forward to some lively debate on the issues and working diligently to bring back the Democratic Party as we have always known it."Gaddy, 63, whose maiden name was Banes, worked at KOSA, Channel 7, from 1969 to '76, then covered news beats and anchored at stations in Rochester, N.Y., Fort Worth, Fort Smith, Ark., and San Antonio. She worked in economic development in San Marcos, Pottstown, Pa., and Cambridge, Ohio, which she said would inform her efforts in Congress."I have a great deal of experience working with county, city and state governments, grant work, Mom and Pop businesses, recruiting new businesses and retaining old ones," Gaddy said Monday afternoon."Running as a conservative Democrat, I know there are many God-fearing, decent Judeo-Christian Democrats who for many years have voted for Republicans simply because there was nowhere else to go."Gaddy worked as a special education teacher for two years in Beeville in South Texas before returning to Odessa this year. She attended Odessa High School, graduated from Denton High School and earned degrees at Odessa College, the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin."I have a very keen interest in special education," she said.
