KREM2's Katie Boer Visits Valley School
January 23,2014 She may have been a ball girl for the Mariners, swam with over 200 sharks for a TV segment, received numerous awards from the Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists, and is now at home in front of a TV camera, but it's still taken her awhile not to be nervous in front of a class of elementary school students. There was nothing to worry about, however, when KREM2 morning weather anchor and reporter Katie Boer paid a visit to Mrs. Tilla's fourth grade class at the Valley School. After rescheduling twice due to weather, Boer and her camera man, Al Lozano, spent an hour with the enthusiastic class on Friday, January 17th talking about what it's like to be a KREM2 weather anchor. Boer also brought props and had the students help her demonstrate how a green screen works, how the earth revolves around the sun and how that affects seasonal weather patterns, and even how a tornado works. Boer, who always wanted to be a baseball player, also knew by the time she was in fourth grade that she wanted to be on TV. She told the class that they too could decide what they wanted to do and work hard to make it happen. Boer certainly is not resting on her laurels as she's currently back in school to become a meteorologist, is training for a half marathon, and still manages to get up at 2 a.m. five days a week to attend to her reporting duties.
