"In our study, three times as many people trying to lose weight were able to stick to a Mediterranean-style diet versus the low-fat diet," reported lead author of the study Kathy McManus, R.D., director of nutrition at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
She noted that "Patients loved this diet because they could include favorite foods if they carefully watched portion sizes."

• "There's increasing evidence that drinking isn't as satiating as eating whole foods," according to Kathy McManus, Director of the Department of Nutrition at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Here's some practical advice from Kathy McManus, Director of Nutrition at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital.
"The fewer ingredients, the better, and make sure that real foods are on the list, whether it's meat or vegetables," says McManus. A marinara sauce is a simple thing you can create in a batch, and then add some turkey meatballs that you've made in advance to whole-wheat pasta," says McManus. She also suggests using a crock pot to create stews that cook all day and are ready when you get home. But really, any meal that freezes well will work for this concept. • Keep Healthy Snacks at Hand: "Keep a list of grab-and-go foods that you replenish each week," says McManus.
