Baileywick Elementary School | Soapstone UMC [cached]

But hard knocks are nothing new to Principal Kathy Hartenstine, who not only reported these facts but shared her own story of having parents who grew up in poverty when she Hartenstine_Kathy18 visited Soapstone Sunday, March 2. Hartenstine was on hand to discuss the emerging partnership between Soapstone and Baileywick.

"When it comes to learning, it doesn't matter where you come from," Principal Kathy Hartenstine said. "We are a community of learners - for learners."
What Baileywick needs now
The greatest need, Hartenstine said, is time with children. "We need people committed to mentoring them, having lunch with them, spending time in the classroom with them," she said.
Hartenstine said Baileywick is staffed from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for this purpose or for adults who wish to discuss volunteer opportunities. High school students following a year-round calendar are also welcome to help when tracked out as Baileywick follows a traditional schedule.
"We don't care if you come in as 'oh, that poor school', or if you come in wanting to be a super hero," Hartenstine said.
