While there was a letter a few weeks ago from the director of the FBI regarding bank robberies, that does not mean the FBI no longer gets involved in bank robberies, according to Kathy Guider, media representative with the FBI.
"Bureauwide, we may be taking a step back, as terrorism has become a priority within the FBI
said."We may be more selective, the criteria has changed a bit."
Bank robberies that involve weapons and violence or high amounts of money still will be investigated.
"In the past, we responded to all bank robberies," Guider
said."We still will assist if requested.A small police department can ask for our help, and we will assist."
The Nov. 12 robbery of Bank Calumet
was the fourth bank robbery in Munster this year.
Others occurred June 5 at Mercantile Bank on Ridge Road
, east of Calumet; Aug. 2 at TCF Bank
