Kathryn Yarborough | Our BackgroundBody Wisdom Services
...Body Wisdom Services was founded by Kathryn Yarborough in 2001.
It began as an idea about sixteen years earlier because of experiences she
had at Smith College
while in graduate school for dance. At that time, she
became aware of the implicit wholeness that exists in each of us when we consciously integrate all parts of ourselves: body, mind, emotion, and spirit.Since that time she
has searched for ways to teach people this wonderfully healing and transformative wisdom. On her ongoing pursuit, in 1994 she decided to become a registered dance/movement therapist and attended classes at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at other educational facilities. She
completed a field placement assignment at Laurel Regional Hospital
and internships at St. Elizabeth's Hospital
in Washington, DC and the VA Medical Center
in Baltimore, MD.She
became registered with the American Dance Therapy Association
in the spring of 1997.After becoming registered, Kathryn Yarborough worked as a clinical dance/movement therapist at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. She
worked on the eating disorder and general psychiatry units there. She
specialized in body image recovery and co-developed a workshop for people in the community who wanted to increase body acceptance.
While at St. Joseph Medical Center she
realized that work as a clinical dance/movement therapist, though a wonderful opportunity for patients in a variety of settings, was not an ideal long-term career match for her
.She left her job in 2001 to start Body Wisdom Services so that she could provide transformational opportunities for people who want to explore their life's journey consciously.Kathryn Yarborough
brings to this process a zest for transformational work.On her
own ever increasingly conscious and spiritual journey, she
practices the skills and tools she
shares with her
clients - never asking them to do anything or go anywhere that she
herself has not explored in her
is committed to creating safe places for people to deeply connect to themselves and others: where everyone is seen and heard.Body Wisdom Services
began with a Women's Body Wisdom Group
and Private Body Wisdom Sessions.Overtime, Kathryn
has offered a variety of workshops and classes and at times has partnered with Laura Mueller, Mary Dowling, Cheryl Walker and Joanna Clark to co-lead workshops.
has many ideas for the future of Body Wisdom Services
including a Body Wisdom Practitioner training program and the development of a series of offerings for Manifestation Coaching clients.
