Field dwindles as Democrats decide who to challenge Donovan
HACKENSACK - Bergen County Democrats seem to be internally deciding who should challenge County Executive Kathy Donovan as the only announced candidate in the race, former freeholder James Carroll continues to be ignored as a viable option against the popular South Bergen icon.
Former United States Congressman Steve Rothman (D-9) seems content in retirement and practicing law again while NJ Senator Paul Sarlo (D-36) would much rather stay in Trenton as well as Wood Ridge mayor and not make the race against Donovan, the former assembly member, GOP state party chair, Port Authority Commissioner and Bergen County Clerk.
"Rothman has a cordial relationship with Donovan
and doesn't want to deal with the rigors of a countywide campaign.
"Tanelli and Tedesco would be difficult opponents for Donovan
in South and Central Bergen
Meanwhile County Clerk John Hogan seems ready to run should Dressler decide not to challenge Donovan.
the perfect candidate for Bergen
County in that he
appeals to moderates and independents and that's bad news for Donovan
