When Darius Vaielua last appeared before Pierce County Judge Katherine Stolz, she sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
That was on Jan. 12, 2007, five months after a jury convicted him of second-degree murder in a Tacoma homicide.
On Friday, Stolz
signed an order setting Vaielua free after the state Court of Appeals for Division II ruled earlier this year that he
never should have been convicted.
addressed Vaielua, 27, as he
sat in the courtroom gallery surrounded by family and friends.
The court also ordered a new trial for Williams, 28, saying Stolz
erred when she
allowed the jury to hear "prejudicial" evidence of the potential gang ties.
