"Kasey (Phillips, of Precision Productions) asked me kind of at the last minute for a song on the Emergency Riddim that Destra could sing...
A few months later, just in time for Vincy Mas, Ashwin and Kasey Phillips
of Precision Productions tag teamed to finish the mix, which, I must say, came out HARD.
from Precision Productions
had already built a bouncy riddim for the song, so all it needed was the right songwriting to seal with deal.
Soon thereafter, Precision's
head honcho Kasey Phillips
was hopping on a plane to Antigua to record vocals, then back to TnT
to finish minor tweaks and mixing, and the result is the amazing Carnival anthem that you now hear.
Big up to Kasey Phillips
for reaching out for me to pen a second song on Precision Productions'
Emergency Riddim at the very last minute lol!
Sometimes life does indeed "save the best for last", as the old proverb goes.
In this case, I wrote the first song on the riddim ("Maddd Again") in studio with Kasey, and the last song ("Mash Up") was written alone at home in the wee hours of the morning, following a late night message from Kasey (Precision) wanting a song for Destra to "close off the riddim".
A while back my longtime friend and collaborator Kasey Phillips
(AKA head honcho at Precision Productions lol) contacted me to let me know he
was leaving for St. Lucia
the next morning and he
was hoping I could meet him at the studio that night to "do something quick" for a Lucian artist.
I got to the studio, Kasey
started playing around on the Maschine... and soon he
had the basic framework of what would turn out to be the Emergency Riddim.
From the time the first chords started, I had already come up with the concept and the hook-lines... and by the time he
finished building the beat I was pretty much done writing.
A couple hours later we had a full demo of "Maddd Again", just in time for Kasey
to pack his
bags and hop a plane to sweet St. Lucia.
Kasey ended up getting a recommendation from a trusted Lucian advisor to "give HP a try" and the rest, as the popular colloquialism goes, is history.
Big up DJ HP for doing an awesome job at bringing the story to life, and of course, mad love goes out to Kasey
and the whole Precision team.
Many months ago, Kasey Phillips of Precision Productions asked me for a "sexy" Soca song suited for a female artist.
At the time he
was too swamped with work to send me a "riddim" to write it on (which is how we normally work), so he
told me to come up with something from scratch and then the Precision team would "build music from there".
A few days later, I sent Kasey
the demo for what would ultimately become "Wine Of My Life", and soon thereafter, the homie Ashwin "Smash" Seegobin went to work at turning my keyboard tinkerings and vocal melodies into a full production, with invaluable input from Kasey
Following that, I was pleased to hear that Antiguan singing sensation Tizzy (from the well known Soca band El-A-Kru) had signed on to sing "Wine f My Life", and the rest - as they say - is history.
Shout out to the lovely and talented Tizzy for doing an awesome job on the final vocals for "Wine Of My Life".
Also big respect to Smash for his
tireless and enthusiastic work on the project.
Oh, and a special mention goes to Kasey
for flying all the way to Antigua to record Tizzy's vocal too lol.
