Burlington Art Guild board ..., 13 Sept 2012 [cached]
Burlington Art Guild board member Karla Mundt encourages families to walk over to the park and enjoy painting stations and an artsy scavenger hunt.
"Art is fun, and I don't want to boss anybody around, but I will encourage kids to be inspired by what they see in the park. Otherwise, kids will just draw a bunch of rainbows," laughed Mundt.
Mundt said she chose South Hill Park for the event because of its great view of the Mississippi River, and it also suits this year's theme, "Nature."
Advertisement She has worked with children for years as an art teacher, and this is the first time Burlington has seen this event.
Children of all ages are encouraged to walk over and use the supply of water-based tempra paints.
During the scavenger hunt, children will be asked to draw five or six things they see in the park.
The guild has had a grant from the Burlington Fine Arts League for this event since last year, but Mundt said she thought waiting until cooler weather would bring a better turnout.
"We wanted to try out some new things, get outreach to the public and that neighborhood," she said.
