Posted by childrensheartlink in Uncategorized | Leave a Comment Karin Robeck, R.N., is a pediatric cardiac ICU nurse at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital. "I provide essential nursing care for children with heart defects and heart disease, helping families through one of the most difficult times in their child's life," said Robeck. Robeck has volunteered for Children's HeartLink for two years, traveling on two separate cardiac training visits to Lanzhou, China, and our partner First Hospital of Lanzhou University (FHLU). During that time, she has witnessed several advancements at FHLU's program. "One of the things I noticed in the ICU on my first visit to Lanzhou was how they managed pain immediately after surgery, and how that affected progressing the patient toward removing the breathing tube," said Robeck. Robeck completed her second training visit to FHLU in January 2012. "The most touching moment for me on this trip," she said, "was watching a mother visit her son in the ICU for the first time after his surgery. She was overcome with emotion and kept touching her son from head to toe, making sure that everything was okay. With tears in her eyes, she looked up at me and said, 'Xie xie,' or 'Thank you.'"
