...Karen Rushing has been Sarasota County's elected Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller for the past 18 years.She
has more than 30 years of court management experience, both in Florida and in her
native state of New York. Ms. Rushing received a B.A. degree from the University of South Florida, an M.B.A. degree from Nova University and has completed post graduate work at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. She served the state of Florida as Legislative Chair and Council Member of the Criminal Justice Counsel on behalf of the Florida Association of Court Clerks and currently serves as the Association's 2nd Vice President.Ms. Rushing also Chairs the Education Committee and is a member of the Association's Best Practice Committee.She
has been honored with numerous awards for excellence in financial management, in addition to receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of South Florida
In 2005, Ms. Rushing
received the Clerk of the Year Award from the Florida Association of Court Clerks
is committed to the goal of providing high quality customer service and controlling costs.Currently, Ms. Rushing is working as an Advisor to the United States Department of Commerce through the Commercial Law Department.
In this capacity, she
is assisting the developing democracy of Angola, Africa.The judicial reform project is supported by the Ministry of Justice in Angola and is designed to provide substantial reform to their current court system.Ms. Rushing
also serves the community by volunteering.Her community activities this year include serving as a Board Member of "Success by Six", an initiative that focuses on early childhood development and the Community Impact Committee Chair of United Way.
