Community Aging and Retirement Services recently held a special breakfast to honor Karen Alvarez, administrator of the CARES Home Health Agency, for her 20 years of dedicated service.CARES president Bill Aycrigg honored Alvarez for her dedication and commitment to clients and to the agency while the employees in the Home Health Department lauded her management style and sense of humor.
...Alvarez, a registered nurse, came to Florida in 1980 from New York City, where she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Columbia University.
Five years later, she
applied for a job with CARES
, then known as the Pasco County Citizens Council of Aging
, as a part time nurse and volunteer coordinator.In 1989, when CARES was licensed as a home care agency, she assumed the full time position of administrator and subsequently project director for the CARES Senior Health Clinic.
"I enjoy working for a non profit agency, because ethics and caring are primary," Alvarez
said."Our employees are caring and exceptional people."
