Our Team & Board - 100 Mile Club®, 3 Dec 2015 [cached]
Kara Lubin - Founder and Chairman of 100 Mile Club®. Kara started as a special-education teacher who had a classroom full of students who couldn't sit still. Lubin started small, asking her kids to run every morning for 10 minutes. She noticed a difference in their behavior within a week; her classroom was full of more engaged and focused kids. Now, 20 years later, the club will reach over 1000 schools and 100,000 students nationwide. Featured in Runner's World Magazine in January 2013, and recognized by ChildObesity180 as having one of the most scalable and innovative physical fitness programs in the United States, The 100 Mile Club shows no signs of slowing down. Kara and her husband Glen, a school principal, live on a little ranch in Norco, California with their 2 children, Paris and Millie.
History, 17 Oct 2008 [cached]
Kara Lubin began 100 Mile Club during the 1992-93 school year. She taught a class for students in 4th -6th grade. The students in her class were brilliant and EXTREMELY energetic.
Kara had been riding horses since she was 8 years old. What she did know about horses was this: If you have to train a high-energy horse, you often begin with a process called lunging.
The kids stretched and ran daily that year, and as they years passed, Kara and her assistant, Deb Potts, began to notice some things:
The students came to Kara absolutely filled with anxiety about failure.
Along with a t-shirt, the 25 Mile Club Member gets his or her name on the 25 Mile Club Member web page, and a personal certificate and note from Ms. Lubin.
Kara also integrated the use of The Pyramid of Success, designed by the legendary basketball coach and 100 Mile Club supporter, Coach John Wooden.
Kara is now a Resource Specialist and no longer teaches a class of her own, but The 100 Mile Club is continuing to improve, grow, and is more popular than ever. Now in its 16th year, 100 Mile Club is gaining support from community businesses, local and national foundations, community members, and families of participating students.

The 100 Mile Club was started 20 years ago by Kara Lubin, a teacher in the Corona-Norco Unified School District.
About Us - 100 Mile Club®, 24 Jan 2008 [cached]
Kara Lubin was a Special Education Specialist for the Corona-Norco Unified School District from 1991 through 2010 teaching elementary age children.
She began The 100 Mile Club® during the 1992-93 school year, her second year as a classroom teacher. Her students were EXTREMELY energetic and challenged with various learning disabilities. Many were uninspired and angry, and some just didn't want to be at school at all. Kara asked herself, "How would I teach these amazing children? How could I calm, center, inspire, and energize them all at the same time? The task was overwhelming. Not knowing what else to do, she started with what she knew best…horses. Kara had been riding horses since she was 8 years old.
Kara remains involved in every aspect of her 100 Mile Club and is thrilled when schools, parents, students, and their teachers join up and accept the challenge of even trying to run or walk 100 miles at school.
Kara reflects, "Some individuals finish their 100 miles, some go far beyond 100 miles, and some students don't quite get there.
Inspired by the 1992 Olympics, special education teacher Kara Lubin used the dream of becoming a gold medalist to inspire her hard-to-motivate students.
