Kara Lubin - Founder and Chairman of 100 Mile Club®. Kara started as a special-education teacher who had a classroom full of students who couldn't sit still. Lubin started small, asking her kids to run every morning for 10 minutes. She noticed a difference in their behavior within a week; her classroom was full of more engaged and focused kids. Now, 20 years later, the club will reach over 1000 schools and 100,000 students nationwide. Featured in Runner's World Magazine in January 2013, and recognized by ChildObesity180 as having one of the most scalable and innovative physical fitness programs in the United States, The 100 Mile Club shows no signs of slowing down. Kara and her husband Glen, a school principal, live on a little ranch in Norco, California with their 2 children, Paris and Millie.

The 100 Mile Club, which was started by Kara Lubin, a special education teacher in the Corona-Norco School District, in 1992. Inspired by the 1992 Summer Olympics, Ms. Lubin had a dream that kids would be motivated to stay fit by the simple goal of "winning the gold medal. These medals, based on dedication and effort - not speed and fitness - could reward students of all abilities, including Ms. Lubin's special education students.

The 100 Mile Club was founded in 1992 by Kara Lubin a Special Education Specialist working with students who had been labeled under-achievers, hyper active, and a few other not very success oriented names. Lubin realized that all these kids needed was a focus for their considerable energy and to learn what a goal was and how to achieve it. She started with thirteen students telling them that they were going to run 100 miles during the school year. Many doubted their ability to meet what sounds like an impossible goal. However at the end of the school year, not only did every one of the thirteen meet the goal, several exceeded it!
Lubin's philosophy is simple, she believes that every individual has the ability to achieve true personal success and a new level of physical fitness by accepting the challenge of running or walking 100 Miles during a single school year.
...
"You see the more athletic individuals encouraging and mentoring those that might need that little extra boost," says Lubin, "you also see the slower more focused students showing others how to gain the goal by slow methodical achievement of each step of the goal along the way."
...
Lubin stated, "you have no idea how fun it is to watch a student see an adult wearing a club shirt, and having a conversation about achieving that goal.
