"Initially I wanted to run the race for Team Fisher House because some friends of mine were doing it, but now I am hoping to get more organizations involved," said Kalen Arreola, president of Stars and Stripes Marketing LLC.

Kalen Arreola is a Captain in the Army Reserve and the commander of a public affairs unit in Denver, Colo. Previously, she was the command PAO for the 79th Sustainment Support Command in Los Alamitos, Calif. serving the western region of the United States under a 2-Star command. She served in Operation Iraqi Freedom V supporting the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) and the 3rd Infantry Division. She has worked with embedded reporters from major news agencies, including NBC, Fox, NPR, CBN, ABC and CBS. She also developed a successful hometown news campaign that reached out to more than 250 hometown news markets to tell the story of the American Soldier during the surge. Her previous civilian occupation was on the Corporate Communications team for PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc. where she assisted in the creation of PETCO's social media platforms. She was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 2008 for her work in Iraq and was a 2010 MacArthur Leadership Award nominee. Her leadership during OIF V also resulted in Army Commendation Medals for her entire print journalist team, after their weekly publication earned first place in the Keith L. Ware Journalism Awards for the Best Field Publication in the United States Army 2007. Kalen is active in the military nonprofit sector, serving on boards for the Flying Leatherneck Historical Foundation, the Yellow Ribbon Registry Network, the Women Veterans of Colorado and VFW Post 1. She is also a member of the Reserve Officers Association and the Association of the United States Army.
