Katie Ferrier MeteorologistKatie was born and raised right here in the upper Midwest.
After traveling the world and going to school out of state she
was ecstatic to return back to her
roots and the weather she
was inspired by her
dad to venture into meteorology, and at five, she
folks that she
wanted to be a weather gal someday. Her
drive is to help people stay safe during severe weather, during all seasons! She
got a B.S. degree in Geography/Atmospheric Sciences from Minnesota State University, Mankato
where Dr. Keen gave her
the chance to live her
childhood dream. She then obtained an M.S. from Mississippi State University in the Broadcast Meteorology program. College brought valuable experience, from studying avalanches during field studies in the San Juan Mts. in Colorado, to combining her love for dogs and weather when she was blessed to be funded by National Geographic, working with the "Arctic Transect 2004" dogsled team. She was certified to test homes for Radon, had a "weather talk" radio show at KMSU in Mankato, and served as a teaching assistant to produce and direct weather shows. She
also interned at Fox 9
in Minneapolis in the summer of 2005.
She'd like to thank the schools and community festivals she's
been asked to visit that have made her
feel right at home in Siouxland.Outside of work, she's
busy calling friends across the country, "hanging out" with her
Basset Hound, singing, cooking, and going on road trips!
