Like most medical doctors Justine Turner is used to working crazy hours.
"I tend to get the weekend and midnight shifts," says Dr. Turner, a pediatric gastroenterologist whose neonatal patients require round- the-clock care. Weekdays are covered, but nights and weekends Turner trades shifts with one of her graduate students to make sure that her cloven-footed young patients are properly looked after. Turner has slogged many long, late hours at the University of Alberta's Swine Research and Technology Centre, but after more than two years the results are beginning to pay off.
