ABC's head of sport, Justin Holdforth, has informed Bowls Australia the national broadcaster would not be extending its long-term association; dropping weekly live bowls - considered an institution in that sports-mad country.
Holdforth cited a strategic shift to attract a younger audience to bowls' traditional 5pm timeslot on a Saturday evening, as well as a need to "redirect its limited resources into alternate programming" as key reasons behind the decision.

Justin Holdforth has a 25 year history in the Australian Television industry. In an extremely diverse career he has produced News and Current Affairs, Arts, documentary, entertainment and factual programming....he has even won an ARIA award in the "best children's release" category. Justin became Executive Producer of ABC TV Sport in 1999 and quickly created "The Fat" a highly successful sport entertainment format and oversaw the production of the Sydney Paralympic Games coverage. The Opening Ceremony of which is still in the top 3 highest rating programs the ABC has produced. Holdforth is veteran of Rugby World Cups, Hockey and Rowing World Championships, The Hopman Cup, International Basketball, Football and Cricket and multiple Paralympic Games. In 2009, Justin became the Head of ABC TV Sport and Events.
