The Honourable Justice Robert J. Sharpe will receive an honorary Doctor of Civil Law degree during the 3 p.m., June 17, session of Convocation. He has served as a Judge for the Court of Appeal for Ontario since 1999 and served previously as a member of the Ontario Court of Justice. He was Dean of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law from 1990 to 1995 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He received the Ontario Bar Association Distinguished Service Award; was elected a Senior Fellow of Massey College; and received the Mundell Medal for Distinguished Contribution to Law and Letters. He has written and co-written a number of books and scholarly articles and is a frequent law lecturer.
Justice Sharpe was a member of the Advisory Panel to Assist the Constitution of Kenya review Commission, and a member of the International Bar Association Rapid Response missions to investigate threats to judicial independence in Russia and Pakistan.
He is a mentor to law students and has visited the University of Windsor Faculty of Law many times.

Robert Sharpe was formerly a professor at the Faculty of Law, University of toronto, where he wrote and taught in the areas of constitutional law, remedies, civil procedure, and criminal law. From 1990 to 1995 he served as Dean of the Faculty. He has appeared as counsel in a number of Charter cases in courts at all levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada. From 1988 to 1990, he served as the Supreme Court's Executive Legal Officer.

Chief Justice Lennox was appointed as Chief Justice to the Ontario Court of Justice in May of 1999 following his term as Associate Chief Judge at the Ontario Court Provincial Division. The Chief Justice is an active contributor to the Steering Committee on Justice Efficiencies and Access to the Justice System, a leader in judicial education programming and keynote speaker on the role of justices and the Court. He has shepherded both the family and criminal courts through periods of changing expectations, reversals and progress. Over the past year he has served as Co-Chair of the Ontario Judicial Council and Chair of the Justices of the Peace Review Council.
During Chief Justice Lennox's tenure, the Ontario Court of Justice has matured its educational programming and is now viewed as a leader in judicial education by many courts in Canada.
