Read More Author June Hall McCash to speak at rare book exhibit in Oaklands Mansion Read More Oaklands Mansion to host author talk with Dr. June Hall McCash Oaklands Mansion is excited to welcome celebrated author, Georgia Author of the Year award winner, and former Middle Tennessee State University professor, Dr. June Hall McCash on April 15, 2016, at 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm as she speaks about her latest historical fiction The Boys of Shiloh. novel originally intended for younger readers, which holds a much more varied appeal to all audiences than Dr. McCash ever realized it would. We hope you will join us at the mansion to hear her read and discuss her new novel. "This book, a work of fiction based on the actual battle of Shiloh in 1862, was conceived after a trip to Shiloh battlefield with one of my grandsons when he was about ten years old," said author Dr. June Hall McCash. "He was a freshman in college by the time this book was published, which may give readers some idea of how long some of my books percolate before they become a reality." The Boys of Shiloh explores the Civil War through the eyes of two thirteen-year-old boys, who meet for the first time the day before a deadly, two-day battle in Tennessee and develop an unusual connection. In light of the theme of Dr. McCash's book, Oaklands Mansion will also feature a special never before seen collection of artifacts pertaining to battles fought in Tennessee during the Civil War.

A true lover of books, Dr. McCash has authored over 10 books and has published more than 40 articles for newspapers, magazines and journals. Currently a full-time writer, she has also been an instructor at Emory University, chair of the Department of Foreign Languages at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and professor of French and Humanities. She was also founder of the University Honors Program. She has been a fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Council of Education as well as the recipient of her university's Distinguished Research Award (1996) and Career Achievement Award (2003) along with Agnes Scott College's Outstanding Alumna Award (1996). Now devoting her time to her novels and poetry she divides her time between Tennessee and Georgia. We are very excited to welcome her as our guest speaker on August 14th at Oaklands Historic House Museum and we welcome you to view some of our most prized books from the museum's collection.
