Julius L. Levy, M.D.Dr. Levy served as our board president from 2000 - 2002.He is a physician who retired from his General Surgery practice in 1998 and is now teaching at Tulane University Medical School, holding joint faculty appointments as Clinical Professor of Surgery and Adjunct Professor of Structural and Cell Biology.He has been involved in community activities for most of his life, having served as president/chairman of the Jewish Federation of New Orleans, Willow Wood Home for the Aged, Doctors' Division of United Way, Temple Sinai, the Mayor's Health Advisory Committee, and the Tulane Medical Alumni Association.He is a captain in the New Orleans Police Department Reserve and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of Tulane Health Sciences Center.He has served on the boards of numerous local and national organizations.

Dr. Julius Levy September 2008 OPCD announced the appointment of Dr. Julius Levy to the Board of Commissioners. Dr. Levy practiced General Surgery in New Orleans and Metairie until his retirement in December, 1998. He is a Diplomats of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of numerous medical and surgical societies and served as Chairman of the Surgical Section of the Southern Medical Association and Chairman of the Departments of Surgery at Touro Infirmary and Lakeside Hospital. He served as Chairman of the Emergency Medical Services Committee of the Orleans Parish Medical Society, Chairman of the Health Advisory Committee of the City of New Orleans, and Command Physician for the National Disaster Medical System. Dr. Levy is currently a Clinical Professor of Surgery and an Adjunct Professor of Structural and Cellular Biology at Tulane University where he continues his lifelong participation in the teaching of students and residents. He is a past Chief of the Section of Pediatric Surgery at Tulane and a past-President of the Tulane Medical Alumni Association. He is a member of the Medical School Admissions Committee and a member of the Administrative Board of the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (Charity Hospital). His previous Tulane activities include membership on the Board of the Tulane Alumni Association and Class Agent Coordinator. WNC Jewish Federation's Maimonides Society is holding a dinner meeting with guest speaker Dr. Julius Levy on Thursday, February 21at 6:30 PM at the Doubletree Biltmore Hotel, 115 Hendersonville Road, Asheville.
Dr. Julius Levy is an accomplished, noted and published physician in New Orleans and was a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy's Medical Corps. He is well-known throughout the Southeast and the United States for his many UJA Campaign accomplishments. Dr. Levy was born in Clarksdale, MS and attended Tulane for undergraduate studies and medical school. He served as an inter4n and surgery resident at Charity hospital in New Orleans. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. His is a Clinical Professor of Surgery and an Adjunct Professor of Structural and Cellular Biology at Tulane Medical School His is currently the chairman of the Board of Governors on the Tulane Health Science Center. Dr Levy is a former board member of the Council of Jewish Federations and the American Jewish Joint Distribution committee. He is a past president of the Jewish Federation of New Orleans and a certified trainer for the UJC. He is past Chairman of the UJC's Maimonides Society.
