The Metropolitan Council of Cuba
has designated Bishop Julio Cesar Holguin Khoury
as Interim Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Cuba
Bishop Holguin was born July 18th, 1948 in San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic.He
is married to Milagros Mercedes Hernandez and has three children, one girl, Sahidy (25 years old) and two sons Gabriel and Julio
(23 and 19 years old).He
studied Sociology from 1969 to 1973 at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo.From 1973 to 1976 he studied Theology at the Episcopal Seminary of San Andrés, Mexico, D.F.He
was ordained as a deacon on July 11th, 1976 and a priest on June 3rd, 1977. He has been the rector in several rural towns and in several cities in the Dominican Republic.He was elected Diocesan Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the Dominican Republic on April 16th 1991 and was consecrated on August 16th, 1991.
From 1995 to 2001 Bishop Holguin was a member of the Board of the Latin American Council of Churches
and its president since 2001.He has also been the President of the IX Province of the Episcopal Church of the US.
Bishop Holguin was designated Interim Bishop of the Episcopal Church
of Cuba on February 9th, 2003, after the resignation of Bishop Jorge for health reasons.
A kind and friendly person, loves to sing, make jokes and occasionally cook for his
family and friends.For a very long time he has been a very good friend of the Church in Cuba and is currently a member of the Metropolitan Council of Cuba.
