Government Relations Consulting, Julie M. Strandlie Advocacy ALEXANDRIA, VA Testimonials
"Julie is knowledgeable, prepared and high energy.
"Julie energizes groups of people to accomplish legislative advocacy with more success and less pain, than any one else I've ever known." "Any CEO or president would want Julie advising them on a wide range of matters, from policy and programs to personalities and politics. "Julie is someone who, upon learning about new approaches to her programs, rather than just thinking about them, she puts her learning to work. "If getting things done legislatively is a priority, Julie Strandlie is someone I would always have on my team. "Julie did a fantastic job of keeping me and other state legislative advocates informed about what was going on in Congress as well as in other states. Julie always had an excellent game plan for marshalling advocacy from the state Bar associations on national issues and making it easy for our volunteer board leadership to carry a persuasive message to their Senators and Representatives, at just the right time." "I've known Julie over a decade during which we have worked together on issues impacting aspects of the law and the delivery of legal services. Julie is an undeterred advocate for her issue/cause, a hard worker and an experienced grassroots mobilizer. "Julie was a key player in promoting Medical-Legal Partnerships on Capitol Hill and within the legal community. "Julie did an amazing amount of work in a short period of time for the American Association of Law Libraries as our Government Relations Director. . . Julie's ability of sitting down and working in partnership with members to influence legislation, as well as pulling together a cohesive overview of how AALL affects those issues made her extremely valuable to the organization - and valued by the membership." Julie M. Strandlie, Principal
Julie Strandlie is a highly accomplished and results-driven legislative counsel/lobbyist/grassroots organizer with over 25 years of exceptional experience in government relations, policy, and law. She has worked on Capitol Hill, for large law firms (Patton Boggs), and for small law firms with national practices. Prior to joining the American Bar Association (ABA) as Director, Grassroots Operations/Legislative Counsel, Julie had her own law practice during which time she served as the University of Florida's Washington Representative. Most recently, Julie represented the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL). For over 12 years, Julie served as the ABA's Director of Grassroots Operations and Legislative Counsel for civil legal services (including Legal Services Corporation funding and medical-legal partnership legislation), labor and employment law, science/technology law, and civil rights issues. As grassroots director, Julie personally recruited members to actively participate in the ABA grasstops program and built "ABA Day in Washington" into one of DC's most successful lobby days. As AALL Government Relations Director, Julie worked with members and chapters to develop advocacy initiatives and institute best practices. She focused on government transparency, privacy, net neutrality, digitization, and appropriations for the Government Printing Office, Library/Law Library of Congress, and state, court, and county libraries. Julie is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Florida. She is a member of Florida Blue Key (Honorary), the Virginia State Bar's Special Committee on Access to Legal Services, and the ABA Advisory Committee to the Standing Committee on the Law Library of Congress. Julie is a graduate of two University of Virginia Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership Programs: Political Leaders Program (PLP), Class of 2011 and Candidate Training Program (CTP), Class of 2012. She was elected PLP Class President. Family and community are very important to Julie. She is actively involved in Girl Scouts, church and school events and fundraisers, and local bar association and Law Day activities. Julie was recently appointed to the Mason District (Fairfax County) Planning, Land Use, and Transportation Advisory Committee. Julie and her husband have two wonderful children, Carolyn and Nicholas.
