Dr. Rusby has considerable expertise in social development and behavioral problems, early childhood education and intervention, early adolescent peer relationships, and observation and Ecological Momentary Assessment methodologies. Dr. Rusby received her Ph.D. in School Psychology at the University of Oregon in 1998 with a focus on social development and prevention of behavioral problems. Currently she is an investigator on research studies evaluating comprehensive child care and family interventions to promote positive social development and prevent the development of problem behavior in young children. Dr. Rusby developed the Carescapes program, a video-based training for providers of home-based child care aimed at promoting social competence in preschool-age children. She currently is Principal Investigator on a longitudinal efficacy trial of the Carescapes program. Other current and recent intervention studies include an evaluation of a video-based Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) for parents of preschool children, a randomized controlled trial on school-wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support in middle schools, and the development of an internet program for child care providers of infants in facilitating healthy social-emotional development. She also is investigator on studies measuring peer influence on early adolescent social adjustment; including a study that developed a real-time Ecological Momentary Assessment of peer affiliations, perceptions, behavior, and after school activities; a study on peer social networks; and an investigation of the extent to which peer victimization is associated with later problems in youth. Dr. Rusby has authored several assessment systems for observing children's social interactions in home, child care, and school environments.
