Burns holds a Bachelor's Degree from West Point as a Cavalry Officer, with Airborne-Ranger qualifications; and a Master's Degree in ORSA/Systems Management from the University of Southern California. He is also a graduate of the Army War College.
An avid athlete and sportsman, Major Burns is active in numerous organizations including the Carabao, the Cincinnati, and the TRURO Parish in Virginia. He is also a pro bono member of the OSD WSAR and the TFBSO group in Iraq and Afghanistan.
