Siegel and Judith Wallach, former President of the New York Society for Ethical Culture, are the coordinators of the proposed Ethical Community Charter School.Recently Ms. Wallach emailed WHIK.net to announce an unexpected setback to the creation of the charter school, and is asking the community for help. Here is an excerpt from her letter:"We have had the surprising and disappointing news that the Charter School Institute will not approve our application to open The Ethical Community Charter School in September 2003.The CSI feels it needs further documentation that the model on which it is based will successfully be adapted to the local population. We are confident that the model, appropriately adapted, will be very successful in Inwood/Washington Heights. We intend to work closely with the chartering entity and to achieve our goal. However, it is clear that we will not be able to open the school in 2003.Community members interested in helping Siegel and Wallach in their effort to create the school should email jdwallach@i-2000.com.
