Judith Frank, M.D., director of rehabilitation medicine at the Jewish Home and Hospital in New York City, notes that, "At our facility, rehabilitation begins on day one of admission, with an interdisciplinary team including a physician, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a nurse and a social worker involved in creating an individualized plan for each patient. There are studies that prove patients engaged in rehabilitation do better in the long run than those without those services. One woman in particular comes to mind as an example of dramatic progress. When she came to the Jewish Home, she could virtually do nothing for herself.Following months of therapy, she is now walking independently and dressing and feeding herself. She is also using a state-of-the-art touch-screen computer in our occupational therapy department to write her life story."
