Ms. McCarthy said that
she was "looking forward to new challenges."
She will leave her position as high school principal at Cuba-Rushford Central School. She had previously been a business teacher in the Ellicottville Central School District and the Olean Business Institute. She received bachelor's degree in business from College of St. Rose in Albany and her master's degree in administration from St. Bonaventure University. She visited the school Wednesday morning and met with some students and teachers,
she said.
Ms. McCarthy cited
her "willingness to learn and work hard" as some of
her qualifications
she brings to the school.
She liked that Hinsdale was a "small, family-oriented school" and that kindergarten through 12th grade were all in the same building.
Some challenges that the district faces include raising academic scores and preparing students for secondary education,
she said.
Before making any major changes to the district,
Ms. McCarthy said
she would have to "find out the school's strengths and weaknesses."
