The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Jude Adu-Amankwah, on his part attributed the recent power outages in Accra to obsolete equipment and human induced problems.
He said a $95-million loan has been secured to reduce power disruptions by 95 percent in the long term.
Mr Adu-Amankwah explained that last week's intermittent outages were as a result of the destruction of 15 underground feeder cables, suspected to have been the handiwork of miscreants.
He however said the fault had been repaired and assured residents of continuous power supply in the run up to the elections. He said ECG would make available 12 sub stations to the 33 in Accra and Tema, to enhance power supply.

Electricity Company of Ghana's Managing Director Jude Adu-Amankwah said the first phase of the country's Sunon Asogli thermal gas-fired plant, expected to initially produce around 200 MW, would be completed before the end of the year.
Unlike other countries on the continent, Ghana, which produces around 2 000 MW at the moment, more than the current demand of 1 500 MW, has not been suffering from recent power shortages, but Adu-Amankwah said it needed to keep on investing in the sector to avoid the power cuts seen in the past.
"We've gone through very turbulent times and we've learned our lesson... you have to plan ahead because the consequences can be very bad, both politically and economically," he said.
