Members of Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams are, from left, Tony Zuzulo, Joziah Longo
, Tink Lloyd, Sharkey McEwen and Chen Longo.
...Joziah Longo -- the Circus' songwriter, rhythm guitarist and pragmatic philosopher-in-residence -- points to anthropologists' belief that all humans descend from one African "mother" named Lucy.
If only we could appreciate our common ancestry, he
believes we might find a path to enlightenment.
"The more science realizes the oneness of things, it becomes less hocus-pocus, Care Bear, kissy-face religious stuff," Longo
explained earlier this week."We start to realize the fact that we are one family, and somehow we put barriers between us that create communication breakdowns and allow the dysfunctional aspects of society to come into existence."
That simple yet profound message is conveyed in many of the Circus'
songs, which pull from an eclectic grab bag of rock, folk, country and psychedelia.
on the journey are wife Tink Lloyd (accordion, cello, flute, Theremin), son Chen Longo (bass guitar), Sharkey McEwen (lead guitar, mandolin) and Tony Zuzulo (percussives).
