SC State University announces that Dr. Joyce A. Blackwell has been hired to serve as the University's vice president for Academic Affairs.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - SC State University announces that Dr. Joyce A. Blackwell has been hired to serve as the University's vice president for Academic Affairs.
will officially begin on July 1, 2009.
"We are excited to have Dr. Blackwell join the University's administration as Vice President for Academic Affairs," said Dr. George E. Cooper.
As the vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Blackwell will be the chief academic officer for the University and will be responsible for all academic affairs related to undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs.
will provide leadership and vision in enhancing the excellence of existing, nationally-recognized academic programs and in guiding the development of new degree offering.
She received a bachelor's degree in history and education from North Carolina Central University; a master's degree in history and education from North Carolina Central University; and a terminal degree in women's history and African American history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
has published several articles and is the author of the pioneer study, No Peace without Freedom: Race and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
Prior to coming to SC State, Dr. Blackwell served as the vice president for academic affairs at Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, N.C.
responsibilities were organized into the following categories: faculty governance and office management; curriculum and program development; faculty matters, student matters, communication with external publics; financial and facilities management; data management; and, institutional support.
A tenured professor of history, Dr. Blackwell was founder and director of the Women's Studies Program at Meredith College.
"I too am excited about joining an Institution with such a long and storied history," said Dr. Blackwell
"I look forward to working with SC State's faculty, staff, and students as we continue to build on the University's solid academic foundation," she continued.
