The Big Shoulders Fund
, now 25 years old, provides support for inner-city Catholic schools located in Chicagoâ€™s most underserved communities.
The Big Shoulders Fund
has a $36 million endowment and supports 93 schools (76 elementary and 17 high schools) serving nearly 24,000 students.
Annual distributions of $11â€"12 million are focused on scholarships, capital, professional development programs, health/wellness, an adopt-a-school program, and general operations.
In 2010, Mr. Hale
was recognized by Crainâ€™s Chicago Business Journal
as one of Chicagoâ€™s â€œ40 Under 40.â€ This prestigious list highlights the top 40 next generation leaders in Chicagoâ€™s business, civic, and philanthropic organizations.
is also involved with numerous professional and philanthropic organizations.
He was a fellow in the Leadership Greater Chicago program and an inaugural member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairsâ€™ Emerging Leaders Program, through which they published a report â€œNo Free Money: Is the Privatization of Infrastructure in the Public Interest?â€ Currently, Mr. Hale serves on the Executive Committee of the School Board for the Archdiocese of Chicago and on the Alumni Advisory Board for Leadership Greater Chicago.
Previously, Mr. Hale was Director of Development / Public Relations and a member of the management team at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago, Illinois.
was founded in 1993 and since then the schoolâ€™s unique model has been replicated across the country with funding from a venture capitalist and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
There are currently 25 Cristo Rey-type schools in existence.
Prior to that, he
worked for The Hale Group, Ltd.
, a strategic management consulting firm, participating in a variety of projects including financial modeling, market analysis, acquisition prospecting and strategic planning.
Having attended Marquette University, upon graduation Mr. Hale entered the Jesuit Volunteer International program and spent two years as a volunteer educator in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
