Growing up in the North Buncombe school district
, Josey Weaver
never thought he
would attend Madison High until his
dad took a job there as an assistant football coach.
, who has distinguished himself as Western North Carolina's top boys runner with a personal-best time of 16 minutes, 9 seconds, went into the weekend having won four straight meets - the Brevard Invitational, Madison Invitational, Western Carolina Invitational and Volunteer (Tenn.) Invitational.

...Josey Weaver missed portions of his sophomore and junior seasons with high ankle sprains he suffered while playing cornerback and quarterback for the Patriots.
A typical day would involve going to football practice and then worrying about his
cross country training on a secondary basis.
Even with a divided focus, Josey Weaver
placed sixth at the NCHSAA 2-A meet as a junior, earning all-state recognition just 24 hours after playing a football game against Mountain Heritage.
"It's like he
said, it would be hard to recruit Josey
never really had a chance to reach his
potential.It's been a fun ride so far this year, just seeing what he
is capable of."
