Joseph Zou is a new face to students at Southern Arkansas University , but he is already known to many around the world.Zou , who begins this semester as an assistant professor of mathematics and computer science at SAU , will discuss his theory on UFOs as atmospheric phenomena on a special interview on Japanese television.Zou has written several papers on the subject of unusual lights seen in the sky , which are often mistaken as unidentified flying objects.His discussion on television will focus on these lights seen in China and in Marfa , Texas.Zou , a native of China , has written 10 papers on the subject of the unusual lights , which he describes as atmospheric plasma fireballs.Zou received his bachelor of science in physics from Nanjing University and his master of science from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.He received his Ph.D. in computational meteorology from the University of Utah and another Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Texas in Dallas.The new SAU faculty member was teaching as an assistant professor of computer science at Sul Ross State University in Texas before joining the faculty at Southern Arkansas University.Zou was recently named as a guest associate professor of the State Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Boundary Layer Physics and Atmospheric Chemistry by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.Zou teaches computer science and a computer simulation course , which was developed to supplement majors other than computer science.
