NFTE - Teaching Entrepreneurship to Youth - Our Impact NFTE SITES: Joseph Willis, 19 Owner, Quick Fix Joseph Willis signed up for the entrepreneurial class at Chicopee Comprehensive High School to "fill his schedule. With his first assignment-think of a profitable business venture-he quickly realized this class meant much more and would change the direction of his life. The idea for his business venture grabbed him one day when he was hungry, wishing he had a snack. In that moment, he created his company-Quick Fix. Quick Fix is a homemade all natural candy bar. Joseph studied culinary arts at Chicopee. Food is a passion. And now, the entrepreneurial bug had bitten him. With zeal and dedication, Joseph wrote his business plan and formed his company. He placed third in the Young Entrepreneurial Scholars Program; he is currently enrolled in the Springfield Technical Community College Entrepreneurial Studies Program. As Joseph endeavored to build his business he met several challenges: FDA regulations, nutritional labeling and safe handling issues, among others. His biggest challenge was to find an affordable commercial kitchen to prepare his product. At the critical moment, an angel descended on the scene-his high school entrepreneurship teacher who offered him use of her commercial kitchen space. She also gave him seed money. Joseph's perseverance let him to a solution. The entrepreneurial spirit has so captured Joseph that in addition to building his business and working on his studies, he mentors students in the K-8 programs and has been a guest speaker at various schools. He was recognized as the 2003 Hasbro Games Young Entrepreneurial Scholar of the Year at the Western Mass Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame Celebration.
