Joseph R. Scaccio, part-owner of two acres on East Market Street that once housed Sokol's furniture store, said he hopes to have a deal soon to sell the property.
Scaccio, president of Carmen Construction of Tallmadge, and his brother, John, began demolishing the building in 2008. Scaccio said the weak economy made developers shy away from the site. Redevelopment of the Goodyear complex and expansion of Akron City Hospital make the area more attractive, he said.

Joe Scaccio, president of Carmen Construction Co., nostalgically paged through a yearbook from the '60s by the Overdale front office, which he called a "blast from the past.
He and his wife, Rose, eventually came across his first-grade photo. He said he has fond memories about the school as both a father of two young children and a former Overdale student. "It's a great introductory school," he said, "and it's so welcoming to parents." Joe said he recalls fighting to stay home on his first day of first grade. He had never attended preschool or kindergarten, and he remembers being nervous about his first day of classes. He said his father quite literally dragged him to school that day, after his mother jokingly told him he didn't have to go -- which he believed. The Scaccio's kids, who were also reluctant to start school, discovered an excitement for education after their Overdale experiences just a couple years ago. "Their enthusiasm about education started right here," said Rose, who first volunteered at the school lunchroom when her daughter attended classes there. Mayor Dave Kline, who also attended first through sixth grade at Overdale, scoured the same yearbook with Scaccio and located his picture in the black-and-white pages.
