The executive chairman of Zoomlion Ghana Ltd
, giants of the Ghanaian waste management industry, Dr. Joseph Agyepong
has proposed the transformation of the abokobi landfill site in the Ga West municipality into a transit station for the carting of waste from the city to the Accra compost and recycling plant situated at Adjen kotoku a surburb of Accra.
indicated that Zoomlion
is in the process of acquiring some parcels of land around the site to facilitate the conversion of the site into a transit point for refuse from Accra to the recycling plant.
expressed fear of future fire outbreaks that may occur as a result of burning refuse at the site as well as the various environmental hazards associated with such activities.
who was visiting some metropolitan municipal and district assemblies in the greater Accra region assured residents around the Abokobi landfill site that plans are far advanced to address the level of pollution and its associated challenges at the site.
In a meeting with the Ga East municipal assembly he
expressed gratitude to the assembly for their support in waste management at the local level commending the MCE for his
unrelentless efforts at combating waste.
explained that the visit which would be reciprocated nationwide was aimed at appreciating the assemblies as well as further strengthening the relationship between the assemblies and zoomlion Ghana Ltd.
added that his
outfit is well positioned to support the assemblies in prospective areas of investments and urged the assemblies to make known their challenges for possible solutions to be arrived at.
