Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman and CEO of Zoomlion and Jospong Group of Companies, has indicated that there is the need to promote Private/Public Partnership in the areas of environment and sanitation to solve the problems confronting the country. ccording to him, the country's sanitation problem is a collective one which must not be laid on the shoulders of government alone. He said corporate institutions must also be involved in order to make the necessary impact.
Dr. Agyepong said this when he gave the keynote address of the 64th Annual New Year School at the University of Ghana, Legon under the theme "The Key to Future Health of our Nation: Improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
It was sponsored by scores of institutions with Zoom Alliance, a member of the Zoomlion Group of Companies being the lead sponsorAccording to Dr. Agyepong, several findings from international organizations show there is crisis on the water and sanitation in the country. He added that, although Accra can boast of potable water, numerous households do not have access to it.
He said practices such as open defecation are still ongoing and as such all hands must be on deck to check this practice. Dr Agyepong thus called on the government to institute sanitation courts throughout the country and resource them adequately to prosecute issues brought before them efficiently and effectively.
