This was stated by Joseph Agius, Head of Network Infrastructure at Bank of Valletta in a presentation he delivered during a business seminar held recently. Mr. Agius
said that there are many compelling reasons for financial organisations to put data, video and voice traffic on a single Internet protocol (IP) network."A consolidated communications platform is easier to maintain and more cost-effective to sustain than are multiple networks built on diverse, separate infrastructures.Security and redundancy issues are simplified, whilst support and maintenance are streamlined to a high degree.Convergence on a single IP network substantially reduces IT administrative costs", added Mr. Agius
presentation, Mr. Agius
discussed the approach adopted by Bank of Valletta
in building such an infrastructure.BOV's
IT Network, known as BOVnet, enables the transport and integration of applications, including data, video and voice over a single, IP-based, converged business infrastructure.Mr. Agius
said that the requirements for a converged network must be viewed as a composition of functional layers, based on different technologies, evolution rates and having different internal stakeholders.
