Jorge was a 4-year varsity starter at Rock Falls High School, in Rock Falls, Illinois. He earned four varsity letters and served as team Captain his senior year while at Augustana College. After graduating, he joined the Augustana coaching staff from 2006-2011 where he primarily worked with the Vikings' infielders while also assisting in all aspects of the program. During this time, he also coached the 2009 and 2010 Quad City A's 16U summer Teams. Currently, Coach Acosta is the Head Sophomore coach at Wheaton Warrenville South High School and the Head Coach for the 16U 29ers summer travel team.

The defendants include former navy captains Alfredo Astíz and Jorge Acosta, who were already convicted of other ESMA crimes.
Acosta was also found guilty this year of involvement in stealing babies who were either born to political prisoners in detention or kidnapped along with their parents, who were later killed or "disappeared". The children were mainly raised by military or police families.

Apart from Videla, other top leaders of the military regime received sentences ranging from 40 to 15 years, including Reynaldo Bignone, the last leader of the military junta in 1983, former general Santiago Riveros, who oversaw a number of death camps, Jorge Acosta, head of the ESMA death camp where a special maternity ward was set up to deliver many of the abducted babies, as well as doctor Jorge Magnacco, who delivered most of the babies born at the ESMA.
