Jonathan has more than 20 years of experience on both the client and provider sides of the logistics business. After beginning his career as a transportation and warehouse management professional with the former Bergen Brunswig Drug Company (now AmerisourceBergenCorp), he spent several years with the manufacturing outbound logistics group of Continental Tire North America. He then joined Cardinal Logistics, where he worked in a variety of capacities, most recently as Vice President of Management Information Systems. Today he puts his extensive experience into designing and executing systems-based solutions for 3PD's numerous clients. He holds an MBA from Wake Forest University and a bachelor's degree from Winthrop University.
Integrify: Workflow software to simplify request, approval, and business process management, 8 Feb 2006 [cached]
"The business process analysis part of the implementation was very helpful [in that respect]," said Jonathan Turner, VP of MIS at Cardinal.
According to Turner, Integrify proved to be faster to install, easier to administer, and easier for novice users to understand compared to other options he evaluated.
Since the initial Integrify installation, Cardinal has seen a standardization of its processing and improved the visibility into processing.Employees and managers can now quickly revise and update a process when it needs to be changed, and get instant compliance because all necessary changes are automatically made within the system.This capability, as well as the fact that fewer people are required to process requests, has saved the company time and resources that can be better used to serve customers.In addition, better communication on exceptions, better documentation, and online access to case history requests has improved intra-department communication and made operations run much smoother."We wouldn't be able to run at the rate we're running right now without the system because before what we had was just a whole lot of people managing the whole process on disjointed spreadsheets and databases," said Turner.
Integrify has also allowed Cardinal to run more driver applications through the system than ever before, as well as helped them improve the quality of the applicants they hire."If we hire a lot of drivers that don't meet our corporate standards, they could have a lot of accidents and they wouldn't deliver the kinds of service we promise our customers," said Turner.
To improve the handoff of requests between people in the field and our corporate people has helped us scale up without adding additional staff in Concord," said Turner.
"If we wanted to add 50 new processes to the system, then we'd be adding 50 more things that we have to require each field operation to do when they wanted something from our corporate staff," said Turner.
According to Turner, "Integrify was very responsive and went the extra mile in helping us get the product implemented and on track to get the value from it.Our growth in the last two years can be directly linked to the automation of our processes, particular in the area of driver development."
Turner was also impressed with the versatility of the software, saying it can apply to just about any business: "It especially works for a decentralized organizational structure where there are a wide variety of request types and workflows."

"Before turning to Buoy5, we really didn't have a consolidated plan," said Jonathan Turner, Director of MIS, at Cardinal Logistics. "Each department had its own processes. There was no visibility into the system and field users were constantly calling in to check on the status of various requests. Inevitably, requests got lost in the shuffle."
According to Turner, most of Cardinal's employees work on-site at customer locations, with a limited number of staff being housed at corporate headquarters to administer IT, accounting, maintenance and human resources duties. Each department had its own system of receiving requests from field users, including faxes, e-mail, and phone calls. The management team wanted to create a standard streamlined workflow process.
The first major process to be managed through the iApprove system will be the new driver approval process.
"The process right now is very manual and efficiency is hard to track," said Turner. "With iApprove, we'll be able to track the time each application is held at each processing step, and field managers will be able to use our intranet site to know where each application is within the process."
According to Turner, Cardinal also plans to automate most of the request and processing functions related to its IT/Help Desk group.
iApprove is an intuitive business process management (BPM) tool that allows companies to automate request and approval workflow. The software eliminates problems typically related to labor-intensive processes such as manual paper handling and email requests. iApprove provides form creation, routing definition and tracking tools to those responsible for processing requests, minimizing data entry and simplifying requests for approval and fulfillment.
Turner said Cardinal chose iApprove because, "It is very easy to use and set up.
