Dr Jon Alcantara: Operations
Jon brings more than ten years experience in voice services to Responsa. He started his career with Entropic Cambridge Research, a pioneering speech recognition firm later acquired by Microsoft. From there he went on to SRI Consulting and Nuance Communications, where he was in 1998 the first employee based in Europe and he helped to build Nuance's European organization. Within two years it turned over more than $12M. In 2000 he co-founded Voxpilot Ltd, an Irish developer of VoiceXML software and platforms. In October 2001 he personally raised $1M in venture capital and became its CEO and CTO. Jon guided Voxpilot through the turbulent years of the telecom bust and was able to arrange a trade sale in 2004 to EurekaSoft SA of France. Jon has worked for the past seven years in the area of VoiceXML hosting, where he identified responsa as the most promising European project in this area. Jon received his PhD in Linguistics in 1997 from Cornell University.

Before joining Voxpilot, Jon helped launch European operations for Nuance Communications, and served as Nuance's European Project Manager for two and ahalf years.Previously, he worked for various speech industry firms, including SRI Consulting and Entropic, which was acquired by Microsoft in 1999.He has successfully managed speech applications projects for major firms such as Deutsche Telekom, the New York Stock Exchange and UPS.As Voxpilot CEO, Jon guides both business and technology strategies.Jon holds a PhD in Linguistics from Cornell University and was a recipient of the Jacob Javits Fellowship from the US Congress, which allowed him to attend the MSc Program in Cognitive Science at the University of Edinburgh and work with an expert systems group at the Universität Freiburg.
Chief Operating Officer Dr. Jonathan B. Alcantara, who is responsible at MAP Telecom for VSP Operations, became in 1998 the first employee of Nuance in Europe.
In 2000, he co-founded Voxpilot Ltd in Dublin and became its CEO in November 2001. In 2002 Voxpilot launched the first pan-European online VoiceXML service. Voxpilot was successfully sold in 2004 to Paris-based Eureka Soft. Jon has led successful voice projects for customers such as Monaco Telecom, Swisscom, T-Mobile, UPS and the New York Stock Exchange. He received his doctorate in Linguistics from Cornell University.
