After five years of service to Northern Guilford High School and Guilford County Schools, Johnny Roscoe announced that he is retiring from his position as the Dean of Students and Head Football Coach effective February 1, 2013.
As a staff member, Mr. Roscoe worked as the In-School Suspension Supervisor
Coach Roscoe's teams were the 3-A Mid-State Conference Champions 3 out of the 4 years of being in the conference including a 27-1 record. He was named the 3-A Conference Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012.
With all of his success on the field, the work that he did off the field mentoring these young men and working to secure the players athletic scholarships was probably some of his best.

With those words, coach Johnny Roscoe sent his nascent Nighthawks onto the field for Northern Guilford's first "home" high school football game.
The coach had come out of retirement to establish high standards of intensity, enthusiasm and sportsmanship at Guilford County's newest secondary school. He hopes eventually a football program with absolutely no past will develop a winning tradition.
They're certainly heading in the right direction.
The day after Roscoe handed out brand-new purple-and-black game jerseys from the back of his pickup, the first Nighthawks junior varsity team overcame its rookie mistakes to beat West Davidson 7-0.
A week earlier, they'd won their first game on the road at Bartlett Yancey, 29-0.
"It's wonderful, these young kids learning what it's all about," Roscoe said as his 55 players headed off the field victorious Thursday night."The sky's the limit all the time with young ones."
Roscoe had coached 4-A varsity football there for about 30 years when he decided to retire in 2005 to have knee replacement surgery.
The opportunity to start a football program from scratch in Greensboro enticed the Guilford College graduate to leave behind the 130 acres of land he recently purchased near Lancaster, S.C., for a quail habitat.
The bus ride over to Western Guilford was an eye-opener , or, rather, ear-opener , for Roscoe.Lots of gabbing and whooping it up.
Clearly, these kids still need to learn how to act.It should be quiet on that bus, everyone concentrating on the task ahead.
"I'm too much of a varsity coach," Roscoe admitted during pregame warmups that lacked precision."I'm so used to everybody being exact."
He huddled his team together about 10 minutes before kickoff and asked for a show of hands when he called out the different units.Offensive line.Running backs.Field goal.Goal-line defense. And so on.
"You don't have a past," Roscoe said.
Roscoe asked an assistant.
A lineman had missed a block.
