"We're helping two water districts here in North Caddo Parish, along with Mooringsport," Blanchard Mayor Johnny Digilormo said.
says that help will come in the form of a new water treatment plant.
town is moving forward with plans to replace their current plant, which was built in the 1970s.
"Because of our growth up here, we were hitting our capacity at our water plant," Digilormo
"So, it was to add on to our existing water plant, which is old, or look into building a new one."
The new plant, which will be built outside Mooringsport, will pump out three million more gallons of water daily than the current one.
says the new water facility will have indoor water reservoirs and membrane filters instead of sand filters.
"It's more computerized and state-of-the-art," Digilormo
The new water plant will also be drought ready, he
says, and the new filters will allow for more potential water sources.
"If we had to, we could use Twelvemile Bayou," he
says the new plant will cost nearly 17 million, and its ground breaking should be in June.
says the new water treatment plant will be paid for by a $12,057,000 bond from the DHH
and another $4,930,000 from the USDA.
utilities only supplies Mooringsport with water during emergencies.
