John Peijs John Peijs is the Director of Marine Hotel Operations for Holland America Line. He manages a staff of 450 employees, directs onboard hotel operations and facilitates communications between internal and external customers. John has over 30 years of highly successful involvement in cruise line operations, strategic planning, marketing, merchandising, technology & product development, and project and financial management. John began his career with Holland America in 1988 as the Maitre d', where he managed over 100 employees. His knowledge and drive allowed him to quickly grow within the company. In 1989, Mr. Peijs accepted the position as the Food & Beverage Controller where he supervised purchasing and managed $600,000 -$1 million inventory levels. His main responsibilities were controlling and analyzing the daily operations on board. In 1993, he joined Sheraton Hotel & Towers Fuller's Restaurant where he was responsible for the daily operations and management of this prestigious restaurant within the Sheraton Hotel and Towers. In 1991, John returned back to Holland America Line as the Food Service Manager. From 1994 - 1996, John was named the Food & Beverage Manager where he was responsible for directing restaurant, kitchen and bar operations, menu planning, quality control, purchasing, inventory control and staff scheduling. He supervised and evaluated a staff of 250 employees (125 kitchen, 90 dining, 35 utility). He trained and developed Service and Compliance skill for his department. From 1996 - 2002, John became the Hotel Manager and managed weekly budgets of up to $200,000. His responsibilities included directing the onboard hotel operation (600 plus cabins) including rooms division (staff of 150), food & beverage (over 7000 meals per day), administration, entertainment, medical services (1 PE & 3 RNs), waste management and U.S. Public Health Inspections. As the Project Manager MHO Fidelio PMS (2002-2004), John managed the development and implementation of Holland America's Fidelio Property Management System, an integrated PMS-POS package that was purchased by HAL for its Cruise Vessels. By 2005, John was promoted to Manager MHO Onboard Systems where he was responsible for all Onboard Systems related to Guest Programs. In 2007, John was named the Deputy Director MHO Procurement where he was responsible for all purchases of food, beverage, hotel, uniform and medical supplies etc. John attended Hotel School The Hague, Institute of Hospitality Management, The Hague, Netherlands in 1988 and received his Bachelor in Hotel Administration majoring in Financial Management and International Hotel and Restaurant operations. John is fluent in English, Dutch, and German and is proficient in French and Spanish.
