The patriarch Jacob (renamed Israel), spoke of "the shepherd, the stone of Israel" (Genesis 49:24).[8] This sounds very much like a messianic declaration, for Christ is both the "good shepherd" (John 10:11; John 10:11, 14; cf.Alma 5:38-39, 41, 57, 60; Helaman 7:18) and the stone of Israel (1 Corinthians 10:4).
