John ThroopAVA Executive DirectorJohn Throop recently became the Executive director of the Association for Volunteer Administration based in Richmond, Virginia.Prior to that, he was a consultant to AVA, facilitating the board through a strategic plan¬ning process.He has been a part of the nonprofit and public agency field since 1970, when he became active in The Levy Center in Evanston, Illinois.He was a con¬sultant from 1992 through 2004 as president of The Summit Planning Group, Inc. based in Peoria, Illinois.In his role as consultant, Throop also regularly presented nonprofit management seminars (including volunteer management seminars) in 21 community colleges in Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan.Mr. Throop earned his doctorate in organizational development in religious organi¬zations at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
