Opening speaker for the 2-day conference was John Supplitt, Senior Director, AHA, Constituency Section for Small or Rural Hospitals. Mr. Supplitt reviewed the fiscal landscape, touching on proposed Medicare-related changes in the FY2016 Federal Budget, the 2015 Debt Ceiling's effect on rural hospitals and the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program which would extend the Medicare sequester. He discussed the AHA's recommended alternatives to the proposed cuts.
Mr. Supplitt also shared AHA's advocacy agenda including information on several pieces of legislation that would address the 96-Hour Rule, Direct Supervision, Therapy Cap Repeal and the Medicare Shared Savings Program, reminding attendees to watch for AHA Action Alerts for information on getting involved with protecting rural health care.
