Evesham Mayor Randy Brown questions BOE’s request for part-time police officer for truancy issues - The Marlton Sun

This story was edited on Dec. 19 from it's original version to add additional comments from the Evesham Township School District Superintendent John Scavelli:
Out of our budget, we will find $80,000 or $90,000…offer him (Evesham Superintendent John Scavelli) that deal. Scavelli said for the time being he would wait to see if the council will act on the original agreement for one part-time truancy officer, which the BOE already agreed to and passed in October. As for adding multiple police officers such as Brown suggested, Scavelli said anything such as that would have to be discussed with the board in the future. "It would be something I would have to talk to the board about and see if they were interested in doing that type of thing," Scavelli said.

John Scavelli Jr., superintendent of the Evesham Township School District, said in a statement after the Van Zant incident that he was proud of how school officials handled the lockdown, which he called "a very difficult situation."
"Regarding adding more armed officers in the schools," he said, "the Evesham Township School District is always willing to listen and consider anything that would benefit the well-being of our students and staff."

Not Nearly Enough

Many Township Council members lamented how they wished they could do more, but this is Superintendent John Scavelli's first year and they can't be too tough on him because he's new.
Never mind, that before he became the superintendent of Evesham schools, John Scavelli was the assistant superintendent for business for the Evesham School District, and in that position he was responsible for oversight on the budget.

The next step will be to work closely with the township council to re-examine our budget for next year," John Scavelli, Jr., Superintendent of Evesham Schools, said.

The Evesham Township School District Board of Education on Thursday night selected John Scavelli, Jr. to be the next superintendent of the district.
Scavelli, Assistant Superintendent for Business for the district, will take over March 1st following the retirement of Superintendent Patricia Lucas. Scavelli has been a critical part of the administration for the last few years. As assistant superintendent for business, Scavelli has overseen the budget and helped to lead the district through these tough economic times. Scavelli has a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a master's degree in School Business Administration from Glassboro State College, now known as Rowan University. He holds a teaching certificate in Mathematics, as well as certifications for School Business Administrator and School Administrator. John began his career in education in 1988 at Pitman High School teaching Mathematics. All together, he has 18 years of school administrative experience. Prior to his arrival in Evesham, Scavelli worked in the Franklin Township School District for almost 12 years, the last three as superintendent. Evesham Township School District was fortunate to have hired John as assistant superintendent for business in July 2007.
