The approval came after John J. Ruback Jr., of Ruback & Associates, LLC., presented a thorough explanation of what his role as public insurance adjuster would be for the borough.
"A public insurance adjuster is a legitimate business in Pennsylvania," explained Ruback. "I know what you are entitled to be paid for and you don't. I follow the policy and insurance obligations and you should be treated fairly. You pay for insurance, and when you use it, you should be compensated fairly."
Councilman Leroy "Chico" Moser Jr., said, "I brought him (Ruback) because if he could save money for the taxpayers, that is why we are here."
Moser explained he utilized Ruback on a recent personal insurance claim and was more than satisfied with what Rabuck was able to recover, especially when the insurance firm originally wasn't going to cover Moser's loss.
Ruback was brought before council because of the claim at West End Fire Company. According to council, the ceiling and rear wall of the structure are falling because of damage to the roof.
Ruback explained the date of loss will need to be determined, and then he would look to settle the claim accordingly.
Prior to President Anthony Matulewicz III calling for the motion to contract with the group, Ruback provided a copy of the contract to Solicitor William Cole.
...
After a brief review of the contract, Cole explained this is a professional service and council could contract with Ruback without taking the contract out to bid.
...
Ruback explained he would only start with the contract with the claim on West End Fire Company.
